Chuck was a person who was always energetic, full of life, engaging, hardworking, forward-thinking and willing to help those who may need a little extra support as they made their way through life. Chuck was also a mentor to young students - he understood the value of providing leadership and guidance for others. He was “hard-wired” with discipline, diligence, loyalty and empathy for others.
Chuck Foughty, husband, father and brother, passed away in 2005. His wife JoAnn and her sons Ryan and Eric and their families, began talking with family members after Chuck’s memorial services and decided they wanted to memorialize and honor Chuck.
Both Chuck and JoAnn attended the Fort Dodge Community Schools and graduated from Fort Dodge Senior High in 1967. Chuck had started his career with JC Penney at the age of 16 in Fort Dodge, moved through Penney’s ranks and ultimately located in the Dallas area, where JC Penney is headquartered. Chuck and JoAnne returned to Fort Dodge regularly, and both had fond memories of growing up in the area.
JoAnn, her son's and Chuck's five siblings decided to establish an endowed donor advised fund with the Fort Dodge Community Foundation as a way to effectively honor the life of Chuck knowing that his wishes and values, as well as his memory, will be carried on through the financial support provided by this fund. The purpose of this fund is to provide financial support for projects and programs in Fort Dodge that are focused on helping disadvantaged children overcome barriers that prevent them from reaching their full potential in school and developmentally. A scholarship will also be provided to one Fort Dodge Senior High senior who has demonstrated a willingness to help others and has an interest in pursuing a business degree in college.
