Lin and John Simpson, long time Fort Dodge residents and former owners of Simpson Insurance and Kingsgate Health Insurance, wanted to help support the community that provided them with their livelihood for many years. Lin was born and educated in Decorah, Iowa, and John was born and educated in Exira, Iowa. After working diligently and productively for many years in their insurance business in Fort Dodge, they decided to retire and sell the business.
Both Lin and John had always been active in the Fort Dodge community and wanted to ensure that their support would continue into the future.
Lin and John Simpson established an endowed fund with the Fort Dodge Community Foundation. This fund provides nursing scholarships for students from both St. Edmond Catholic High School and Fort Dodge Senior High School. The fund also supports scholarships for Friendship Haven employees so that they can become certified nursing assistants.
Both Lin and John enthusiastically voice their support of the Fort Dodge Community Foundation:
“Establishing this fund was a very convenient way to give back to the community without high cost legal expense. It also provided a method to donate that provided income tax deductibility. We absolutely encourage others to set up a fund with the Fort Dodge Community Foundation. This type of giving brings great satisfaction by being able to help others."
Lin and John Simpson have also established a charitable remainder trust that terminates in 10 years and is payable to the Fort Dodge Community Foundation, Trinity Regional Medical Center and the Friendship Haven Foundation. Lin and John will continue to generously support the Fort Dodge community and will continue to lead by example. They have helped improve the lives and futures of many individuals, both during their professional careers and through their fund the Fort Dodge Community Foundation.
