Child Health Specialty Clinics

Child Health Specialty Clinics (CHSC) serves Iowa children and youth (from birth through 21 years of age) who have or are at risk of having a special health care need. These can include chronic conditions like asthma or diabetes, behavioral or developmental disorders like attention deficit hyperactivity disorder or autism and more complex medical needs like spina bifida.

Family Foundations

Family Foundations is a family support service available to all pregnant women and families with children up to age five in Calhoun, Pocahontas and Webster Counties. This is a free service provided by the Webster County Health Department. Nurses and family support workers can come to your home or an alternate location and provide information on pregnancy, new baby, toddler growth & development, family life skills and help you find available resources based on your family’s needs.

Family Nutrition Program

The Family Nutrition Program is a free program offered through Iowa State University Extension & Outreach, Webster County, which includes 2 separate curriculums. The Buy. Eat. Live Healthy program is geared for limited income households with children ages 18 and under and consists of 8 sessions providing education on nutrition and healthy eating, food budgeting, saving money at the grocery store, hands-on cooking and food tasting, physical activity and free gifts. Lessons can be provided as a group or individually. Lessons can be given at the extension office, in partnership with an agency or in the home. This series also satisfies 16 continuing education credit hours to qualifying childcare providers. The Plan Shop Save and Cook program is available to limited income individuals 18 years of age and older, regardless of whether they have children. The four-session program is delivered to groups only at various community locations (not offered in the home) and focuses more intently on meal planning, shopping, saving money at the grocery store, understanding nutrition fact panels on food packaging and food resource management and includes food tasting and free gifts. Graduates of both programs receive a certificate and color cookbook upon completion.

Fort Dodge Noon Lions Club

The Fort Dodge Noon Lions Club provides eye screenings for all children birth - five years through day cares, pre-schools and schools. They also provide eye glasses for children through grade 12 through referral from school nurse.

Hawk-i (Healthy and Well Kids in Iowa) Insurance

Hawk-i is low cost/no cost health insurance for children. They offer two plans - a medical and dental plan and also a dental only plan. The cost per month is based on the family size and income. There are many services that Hawk-i covers such as doctor visits, hospital care, prescriptions, well-child check-ups, vaccines/shots, emergencies, surgery, dental care, vision exams, hearing services, mental health & substance abuse care, chiropractic care and speech therapy. This program is managed locally by the Webster County Health Department.

I-Smile Dental Home Initiative

The I-Smile Dental Home Initiative connects Iowa families with preventive dental care and education for their children. As the I-Smile Coordinator for the Webster County Health Department, Cindy Partlow, offers dental screenings and preventive fluoride varnish to children and pregnant women enrolled in the WIC and MH programs, as well as pre-schools. She follows up with families after these screenings to be sure they are aware of immediate dental needs. She also assists with setting appointments and helping clients overcome language and transportation barriers.

UnityPoint at Home Hospice

Our experienced hospice team provides expert care that offers comfort, compassion and dignity for every patient and family. The team consists of the patient's primary physician, a medical director, nurse, social worker, aide, pharmacist, chaplain, volunteers and others. This team provides service in the patient's home, including nursing homes and assisted living facilities. The team coordinates to manage pain and symptoms, assist with the emotional, social and spiritual aspects of the end-of-life experience. Hospice provides necessary medications, medical supplies and equipment and educates family and other caregivers. Short term inpatient care or respite care is provided as needed. Bereavement care and counseling is provided to surviving family members and friends.

Webster County Family Planning Clinic

Family Planning Clinic offers quality, confidential health care, including various methods of birth control, STD testing, pregnancy testing, emergency contraceptives, pap test and pelvic exam, reproductive life planning, condoms and referrals. Medical services are provided by a nurse practitioner or doctor trained in family planning health care. Costs for service at WCHD family planning clinics are based on ability to pay, and are often less than at other health centers. There is no income limit for those choosing to access family planning services. Insurance is accepted.

Provides public health programs, home health services, nursing care, health counseling and immunizations and vaccinations.
